Compare new Sony GPS-CS3KA and Sony GPS-CS1

1. Shape differance:

The new Sony GPS-CS3KA got better shape than CS1. Sony GPS-CS3KA is in square shape: 57mm X 80mm X 23mm(2 1/2 X 3 1/4 X 29/32 inches W/H/D). It is easy to carry in bag or with included case.

Sony GPS-CS1 is in cylinder shape.


2. New LCD display in Sony GPS-CS3KA


New Sony GPS-CS3KA comes with a LCD showing latitude/longitude, signal level/received satellites, battery level and date/time information. Comparing to Sony GPS-CS1, it is much more user friendly. The date and time information in LCD is useful to set digital camera time to GPS time so the pictures taken later will sync with location data correctly. The latitude/longitude display is useful in case of emergency.
Sony GPS-CS1 has no LCD display. It has one light to display signal - quick blink means seeking GPS signal, slow blink means find signal. Another light to display battery level - green means battery is good, red means battery is running low.

3. New build-in SD card and Memory Stick Due card in Sony GPS-CS3KA

It has build-in card can be use to sync location data with pictures in this device. It is a new way to sync data other than using software in a computer. You can use LCD to sync pictures with build-in card 40 pictures in one session. If you have more than 40 pictures need to sync, you need to run it multiple times. If you have multiple digital cameras, you can use this unit to sync data with all the SD or Memory Stick Due cards from different camera. This card reader can not be used to download pictures from this GPS unit to computer. That is why it is called build-in card slot not card reader. When USB cable is inserted to this unit, only GPS data log files can be downloaded to computer.

Sony GPS-CS1 got no build-in card slot. The only way to sync location data with pictures is using software with a computer.

4. Higher Receiving Sensitivity for Sony GPS-CS3KA
